Peter Darling Zhuraw, age 73, passed on March 22, 2003 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden, N.J. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa., he was formerly of Haddon Township and has lived in Glassboro and Pitman for the last seven years. Having graduated from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, he was a self-employed artist and poet. A former professor of art, he taught at Gloucester County College and Moore College of Art.

He was a peace-loving Korean War veteran serving in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1950-52. Peter celebrated his career as an art director at N.W. Ayer, Chilton Publishing and Kapp Studio in Philadelphia. He developed an innovative technique for stained-glass art, and painted "Peter's Angels" and Marilyn Monroe. His Web site is petersangels.com, and his unique, neo-impressionistic paintings can be viewed there.

Peter danced through life, and attended Jan Dean's "Course in Miracles," which he lived by. He attended the Korean Group in Ventnor, N.J., planted living things, loved nature and politics, and sang and danced. In recent years, he appeared as an actor in "The Sixth Sense," "Beloved" and "Jersey Girl." He performed for Hollywood East Entertainment as a clown and face painter. He also wrote letters to Bill Clinton on how to run the country, and evolved from a "Quiet Man" into a spiritual "bon vivant." He enjoyed his family, friends and his dog, Yoshi.

He is survived by his soulmate and wife Jana Foster Zhuraw (nee Gillespie); two sons, Anatole and Brian, both of Philadelphia; one daughter, Christiana of Australia; one sister, Julie Boyle of Glassboro; and four grandchildren, Michael, Yuri, Meta, and Shakti Aurora. He is the son of the late Vascil Zhuraw of Russia, and Anna Bresnick of Hungary.

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate his life by attending a viewing on Sunday, March 30 from 7-9 p.m. and on Monday from 9-10:15 a.m. at the Kelley Funeral Home, 125 Pitman Ave., Pitman, N.J.

The celebration service will be held 11 a.m. at the Spiritualist Church of the Eternal Life, 243 W. Olive St., Westville, N.J. The burial will follow at the Richwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Peter Darling Zhuraw Memorial Fund, c/o Commerce Bank, 562 Mantua Ave., Woodbury, NJ 08096.
